About Us

Every family deserves to grow and flourish in a safe home.

New Lease’s mission is to reduce family homelessness in Massachusetts by implementing a homeless preference in affordable housing rental communities. To achieve our mission the primary components of our work include building effective relationships between properties, social service providers and families; standardizing and enhancing supportive services that empower families to thrive in healthy tenancies; and to promote systemic changes to further lift families out of homelessness.

Who We Are

New Lease is an innovative collaboration between affordable housing developers, social service providers, and government entities that works to reduce homelessness by targeting affordable homes to families in Massachusetts’s emergency shelter system. We are the first HUD-approved homeless family preference in HUD Multifamily housing in the nation.

New Lease administers a framework for all participating stakeholders to ensure a streamlined, efficient referral process so that families can exit shelter faster.  As families move into their new homes, New Lease places a strong emphasis on the coordination of effective supportive services. Our participating social service agencies deliver in-home case management to all of our placed families to ensure they have the tools to thrive in their new tenancies.
